Goldback Wallets – How to Store Your Goldbacks

Goldbacks are a family of voluntary currencies made with actual gold. While Goldbacks are not legal tender anywhere in the United States, they may be accepted by hundreds of participating businesses across the country. Each single Goldback is minted with 1/1000th troy ounce of genuine gold bullion. Since the highest denomination of Goldback is 100, Goldbacks can come fitted with up to 1/10th oz of real gold.

Collectors, gold investors, and fans of gold-backed currencies have helped make Goldbacks one of the most popular alternative currencies in the United States. But if you plan on adding these beautiful gold notes to your portfolio, you might need a place to store them while on-the-go. While storing your Goldbacks can be as easy as throwing them in the safe with the rest of your precious metal investments, many investors believe that Goldbacks are meant to be used

So when you’re traveling, how should you store Goldbacks on your person? For many Goldback aficionados, the answer is to use a Goldback Wallet. Goldback Wallets are specially designed to hold Goldbacks, which are often too large (and valuable) to be kept in your regular wallet.

In 2025, Goldback, Inc. introduced a new collection of specialty Goldback Wallets called the Wayfarer Wallet. On this page, we’ll take a look at Goldback Wallets, as well as the brand new Wayfarer Wallet.

What is a Goldback Wallet?

A Goldback Wallet is a specially made wallet designed to hold Goldbacks. Until 2025, there were really only two options for investors who wanted to store their Goldbacks in one of Goldback, Inc.’s specialty wallets. Available in black and brown, the Goldback Wallet was originally designed to accommodate all sizes of Goldbacks, making it a great tool for collectors who enjoy spending (or bragging about) their Goldbacks.

But in 2025, Goldback, Inc. released a new series of Goldback Wallets. The Wayfarer Wallet is a wallet designed to hold Goldbacks denominated five or lower. As a result, these compact wallets are easier to carry in your purse or pocket. Now, investors can choose between either the Outpost (original) Goldback Wallet or the Wayfarer (premium) Goldback Wallet.

Can You Store Goldbacks in a Regular Wallet?

Goldbacks, especially the smaller denominations, may fit in your regular wallet. However, most modern wallets are foldable, which means that you run the risk of creasing your Goldbacks if you decide to place them in your regular, everyday wallet. Some of the larger Goldback denominations also may be too big to fit in the average traditional wallet.

This is what sparked the introduction of the original Outpost Goldback Wallet. The Outpost wallet is designed to hold Goldbacks without folding or creasing them. The wallets are large enough to accommodate any denomination of Goldback, meaning that investors can store multiple golden notes without risking them getting damaged.

Why Use a Goldback Wallet?

The main reason why Goldback collectors buy Goldback Wallets is that traditional wallets are a poor choice for storing Goldbacks while you’re traveling. Goldbacks are too large to fit comfortably in a traditional folding wallet, which means that storing Goldbacks in your wallet can result in them getting creased or damaged over time. This is not the case with Goldback Wallets, which are specially designed to fit your Goldbacks without folding or damaging them.

People also love Goldback Wallets for their stylish design. The original Outpost Goldback Wallet features a sleek look, genuine leather, and the Goldback logo. Some customers actually choose to carry all of their wallet contents inside of their Goldback Wallet, giving it a new level of functionality. The new Wayfarer Wallet is even more stylish and offers three different color options, full-grain, bridle leather, and a refreshed look.

Types of Goldback Wallets

Goldback Wallets began with the introduction of the Outpost Wallet, which was the first Goldback Wallet released. In 2025, Goldback, Inc. unveiled the new Wayfarer Wallet, a luxury Goldback Wallet that is meant to be taken on the road. Below, we’ll take a look at the two different types of Goldback Wallets on the market in 2025.

The Original Goldback Wallet

The original Goldback Wallet, called the “Outpost,” has been available for several years and was the first Goldback Wallet released for consumers to enjoy. The wallet is designed to fit all denominations of Goldback, is made with genuine leather, can hold other currencies and cards, and was produced in India.

Available in both brown and black, the Outpost Wallet features the Goldback logo in the top right corner, can hold any denomination of Goldback, and can carry a full set of Goldbacks. According to Goldback, Inc., the Outpost Wallet is “perfect for those just embarking on their Goldback journey.”

Goldback “Wayfarer” Wallets

The Wayfarer is the latest Goldback Wallet released. These Goldback Wallets became available in 2025 and are intended as a premium alternative to the original Outpost collection.

Wayfarer Goldback Wallets are made using six ounces of bridle leather, a durable form of leather that some say lasts a lifetime. These wallets are also hand-made in the United States, intended to carry Goldbacks denominated five or lower, and are compact enough to fit inside of your pocket.

Wayfarer Wallets are smaller than the original Outpost Goldback Wallets, making them much easier to carry around for extended periods of time. As a tradeoff, however, these new wallets can only hold Goldbacks with denominations of five or smaller. According to Goldback, Inc., the new wallets are “great for everyday purchases.” The compact, practical, and discreet design of the Wayfarer Wallet makes them an excellent alternative for investors who want a bit more out of their Goldback Wallets.

About the Wayfarer Wallet

The Wayfarer Wallet refers to the newest wallet designed by Goldback, Inc. to hold Goldbacks. Wayfarer Wallets premiered in 2025 and feature a host of upgrades compared to the original Outpost Goldbacks. Most notably, the Wayfarer Wallet is:

  • Made with full-grain bridle leather.
  • Hand-stitched in the United States.
  • Intended to gold Goldback denominations of 5 and smaller.
  • Small enough to fit in your pocket.
  • Hidden logo for discreet privacy.

While the Wayfarer Wallet is intended to be a premium option for investors who want to store their Goldbacks in style, it may not be for everyone. Like Goldback, Inc. said in the official press release for the new series, Wayfarer Wallets are perfect for everyday purchases. If you plan on taking your entire Goldback collection on the road, an original Goldback Wallet may better suit your needs.

Trying to decide which Goldback Wallet type is best for your needs? Let’s take a look at a brief comparison of the two main options for portable Goldback storage, the Outpost and Wayfarer Wallets.

Why Buy a Goldback Wallet?

Not every Goldback buyer uses Goldback Wallets. Like any other currency or investment, Goldbacks can be stored in your pocket, safe, or anywhere else you keep your precious metal products. That being said, Goldback Wallets can be helpful for investors who plan on using their Goldbacks, showing them off, or giving them away, or even people who just like the look of Goldback, Inc.’s stunning collection of custom Goldback Wallets.

If you don’t ever plan on taking your Goldbacks out of the safe and out of your house, Goldback Wallets may not be the best way for you to store your investments. But if you’re someone who wants to trade your Goldbacks, give them away as gifts or tips, or keep a bit of fungible gold on you as you travel, buying a high-quality Goldback Wallet can be a great decision.

Final Thoughts: Storing Goldbacks With Goldback Wallets

Goldback Wallets are specialized wallets designed to hold Goldbacks, a family of alternative currencies made with actual gold. As of 2025, investors can choose between the classic Outpost Goldback Wallet and the Wayfarer Wallet, a new premium option for Goldback stackers to enjoy. While the new wallet is unable to accommodate the largest Goldback denominations, its smaller size makes it ideal for investors who want a sleeker alternative to the original Goldback Wallet.
