The Sunshine Mint 10 gram Gold Bar holds 10 grams of .9999 fine gold, which is 0.3215 troy ounces, made in the USA by Sunshine Minting, Inc. Three of these bars come to 30 grams, just short of a full troy ounce at 31.1 grams. It ships new in Sunshine’s own assay card, with a serial number stamped on the bar.
Between the 5 Gram and the Ounce
At 25 by 15 mm and 1.9 mm thick, the 10 gram bar is a little longer and noticeably thicker than Sunshine’s 5 gram bar, which measures 22 by 17 mm and 1.3 mm. It holds twice the gold in one serialized piece. The front carries Sunshine’s eagle emblem with .9999 FINE, GOLD and 10 GRAMS, and the back is covered in diagonal rows of sunbursts around a round center disc.
Checking That It Is Genuine
The center disc carries Sunshine’s MintMark SI, an anti-counterfeiting feature with a hidden image that shows only through Sunshine’s decoder lens, sold separately. The back of the card repeats the feature with a MintMark SI seal in its lower corner. The serial number is stamped on the bar itself and shows through the card’s window, rather than being printed on the card.
What Ten Grams Costs
A 10 gram bar costs more per ounce of gold than Sunshine’s 1 oz bar and less per ounce than the 5 gram. Making, numbering and carding a small bar costs nearly as much as a large one, and that cost is spread over a third of an ounce. You pay it for a bar that is easier to buy, give or sell in smaller amounts.
