This is 5 grams of .9999 gold, about a sixth of a troy ounce, made by PAMP Suisse for the 2025 Year of the Snake. The front carries the Legend of the White Snake, and the bar ships sealed in a red themed assay card. It is built as a gift and a collectible more than a stacking bar.
The Lunar Legend Series
PAMP issues a lunar bar for each animal of the Chinese zodiac, and for 2025 it went to the folktale rather than a plain snake portrait. The design face shows the White Snake, a serpent spirit from one of China’s four great folktales, coiled through the branches of a flowering tree, with the Chinese character for snake in a stamped seal above. The other face carries the PAMP monogram over SUISSE 5g GOLD 999.9 against a field of scattered stars. The design is one year only, printed on a crimson CertiPAMP card that reads 2025 YEAR OF THE SNAKE.
What You Are Paying For
This bar carries two premiums, not one. A 5 gram bar already costs more per gram than a 1 oz bar, because the mint spends nearly as much making a small bar as a large one. On top of that, a themed lunar bar costs more than a plain 5 gram PAMP bar, for the design and the packaging. As a way to buy 0.16 troy ounces of gold, this is the expensive one.
PAMP retires each lunar design after its year, so there will be no more after 2025. That is a fact about the series, not a reason to rush.
Keep it sealed if resale matters to you. The CertiPAMP card, the printed certificate and the serial on both the bar and the card are how a buyer verifies it. The red card is also the gift packaging, so opening it for a gift and keeping it sealed for resale pull in opposite directions.
Why It Still Holds Gold
Underneath the theme it is 5 grams of .9999 fine gold from an accredited Swiss refiner, with the serial struck into the bar itself. It is IRA eligible, and at 13 by 22 mm it fits in a card sleeve or a small pocket of a safe.
