The Legend of the White Snake, in Gold
PAMP’s Lunar Legends bars tell the folktales behind the Chinese zodiac, one story a year, and for the 2025 Year of the Snake that story is the Legend of the White Snake. One troy ounce, 999.9 fine, struck by PAMP Suisse with a proof-like finish and sealed in its CertiPAMP assay card. It is the second bar in the series, after the 2024 Legend of the Azure Dragon.
Bai Suzhen’s Story
The legend follows Bai Suzhen, a white snake spirit who spends a thousand years in Taoist training and earns the power to take human form. She seeks out Xu Xian, the man who once saved her life, and the two marry. A monk named Fahai uncovers her secret and persuades Xu Xian to make her reveal her true shape, and the shock kills him. Bai Suzhen steals a herb of immortality from Heaven to bring him back, only to be locked in a pagoda by Fahai, where she gives birth to a son who grows up to free her. A story of devotion, and one of China’s best-loved folktales. On the bar, Bai Suzhen appears as the white snake, coiled through a leafy branch beside the character 蛇, meaning snake.
The Moon and Twelve Stars
The other side of the bar is the zodiac clock. All twelve animals of the lunar cycle appear as small stars set in a ring around a textured moon. In Chinese tradition each animal rules a two-hour stretch of the day, and the snake, sixth around the ring, is strongest between 9 and 11 in the morning. Characters marking 10 a.m. sit beside the moon at the snake’s peak hour. The PAMP hallmark, SUISSE and 1oz GOLD 999.9 sit at the top left, with the serial number and the assayer’s mark at the lower right.
Sealed, Serialized and Signed
The bar is individually serialized and sealed in PAMP’s red CertiPAMP assay card, and the number on the card matches the number struck into the bar. The serial must match, card to bar, and leaving the card sealed keeps that check intact when you sell. PAMP also supplies a gift sleeve printed with the White Snake legend.
A Year’s Design, Not a Limited Edition
The White Snake design belongs to 2025, and PAMP moved on to a new legend for 2026. PAMP has not published a mintage for this bar, though, so we do not call it limited or rare. Valued for gold and design, it is an ounce of Swiss gold with a story attached, suited to a Snake year birthday, a Lunar New Year gift or a run of the Lunar Legends series.
