The obverse presents Cuauhtémoc, the last Aztec emperor, in left-facing profile. He wears an elaborate feathered headdress with a beaded band across the brow and long plumes sweeping back behind his head, and a circular ear ornament sits below a patterned collar with quilted armor across the shoulder. His name is stamped in small capitals beneath the bust. FIVE TROY OUNCES arcs across the top and .999 FINE SILVER wraps the lower rim, framed by a stepped fret border in the Mesoamerican style that rings the entire edge.

The reverse reproduces the Sun Stone in full. At the center sits the face of the sun deity with its protruding tongue shaped as a sacrificial blade, flanked by clawed hands gripping human hearts. Around it, four square panels represent the previous world ages. The next band carries the twenty day signs of the ritual calendar in individual boxed glyphs, followed by rings of solar rays, quincunx markers, and stepped geometric borders. At the outer edge, two fire serpents run head to tail around the full circumference, their scaled bodies and flame crests cut in separate raised lines, meeting at the base. The original stone was carved in the fifteenth century and now sits in Mexico City’s National Museum of Anthropology.
