Goldbacks make gold divisible in a way coins and bars never managed. The 50 Utah Goldback contains 1/20th of a troy ounce of .999 fine 24K gold sealed between polymer layers, the largest denomination in the original Utah lineup and the one that carries the most metal per note. The Alpha marking identifies this as part of the 2026 refresh of the series that started it all.

Key Features:

  • Purity and Weight: 1/20th troy ounce of .999 fine 24K gold
  • Metal Type: Gold, vacuum-deposited between polymer layers
  • Obverse Design: Libertas driving a spike into railroad track with a locomotive behind her
  • Reverse Design: Mirrored impression of the front artwork across a plain gold field

The front shows Libertas, the virtue of liberty, mid-swing with a sledgehammer raised over a spike set into a railroad tie. She wears a classical draped gown with a laurel band in her long loose hair, and her stance is braced and forward-leaning. A steam locomotive looms directly behind her, headlamp lit and smoke pouring from the stack, with a crowd of figures gathered at the left. LIBERTAS is worked into the rail itself along the bottom. The scene points to the 1869 completion of the transcontinental railroad at Promontory Summit, where the final golden spike was driven in Utah Territory. The line “Proclaim liberty throughout all the land” runs in script above the base panel. The 50 denomination sits in an ornamental rosette at the upper left, with UTAH, Goldbacks, and Negotiable Instrument across the top. An AURUM serial number runs vertically along the left edge next to the GB seal and the α 2026 series mark. The base panel reads 1/20th Troy Ounce 24K Gold, payable in US gold coin to bearer on demand, with FIFTY at the bottom.

The back carries the same artwork in reverse impression on an unprinted gold surface. Under ultraviolet light the note shifts to violet, with the spike, headlamp, and an eagle overhead lighting up as separate hidden elements.

Each note arrives in a protective currency sleeve and flexes without creasing damage.
