The obverse carries Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ Liberty, adapted from his 1907 Double Eagle. She advances toward the viewer with her gown flowing behind her, a torch raised in her right hand and an olive branch held out in her left. Sunrays fan out from the base of the coin, the US Capitol sits in the lower left field, LIBERTY arcs across the top through a ring of stars, and 2024 appears at the lower right.

The reverse uses the updated eagle portrait the Mint introduced in 2021. A bald eagle head fills the field in tight profile, facing left, with feathers cut individually across the crown and neck and the eye rendered in sharp detail. UNITED STATES OF AMERICA curves across the top with E PLURIBUS UNUM and IN GOD WE TRUST stacked beneath it. 5 DOLLARS sits at the lower left, 1/10 OZ. FINE GOLD at the lower right, with small stars flanking the design. Jennie Norris designed the portrait, sculpted by Renata Gordon.
