The coin’s reverse side has a modern version of Mexico’s Coat of Arms in the center. Around the center are other renditions of the coat of arms through the ages. The picture is the famous story of the founding of Mexico City. The Aztecs saw a golden eagle eating a rattlesnake and decided to make the site of this scene as the center for their great city.  This design is so detailed you can clearly see the eagle’s look of determination on its face with its beak and talon holding the snake. The snake has a look of fear on its face, perhaps realizing the dire situation it is in. The battle is taking place among some cacti seen in the foreground. Arched above the battle is ‘Estados Unidos Mexicanos’.
