History:

Produced by the British Royal Mint, the Queen’s Beasts series commemorates the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. Statues lined the entrance to Westminster Abbey, where Her Majesty was crowned in 1953. The beasts are ancient symbols of power, representing noble families and houses in the Queen’s line of successors.  The White Horse of Hanover came to the Royal Arms of England in 1714, when George of Hanover (King George I) took the throne. He was the first of six monarchs from Hanover to reign in Britain. 

 

Design:

The design of each coin from the Queen’s Beasts series continues to impress with its craftsmanship and detailed artistry. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. The profile was updated by Jody Clark in 2015. “ELIZABETH II” and “5 POUNDS” are additionally engraved.  The reverse once again features the design of Clark. Her depiction of the White Horse of Hanover graces the back. The horse is pictured standing on its hind legs behind a shield. “WHITE HORSE OF HANOVER” and the purity, weight and year are engraved. 

 

Composition:

Each 2 oz coin is composed of .9999 pure silver. Rounds measure 38.1 mm in diameter with a thickness of 6 mm. Weight and content are provided on the reverse.
