The Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle is widely regarded as the finest coin design the United States ever put into circulation, and a cull grade is the least expensive way to own one. These coins show heavy wear, rim damage, cleaning, or other problems that keep them out of certified holders, which means they trade closer to their gold content than any other example of the type. Buyers get 0.9675 troy ounces of gold and a genuine pre-1933 American coin without paying a collector premium.

Key Features:

  • Purity and Weight: 90% gold, 33.436 grams gross, 0.9675 oz actual gold weight
  • Metal: Gold alloyed with copper for circulation durability
  • Obverse: Liberty striding forward with torch and olive branch against a sunburst
  • Reverse: An eagle in flight above a rising sun

The obverse carries Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ full-length Liberty, moving toward the viewer with her right arm raised and a torch held high, an olive branch gathered in her left hand. Her gown streams behind her in deep folds and her hair blows loose across her shoulders. Rays fan out from a rising sun at the base, with the Capitol dome rendered in miniature at the lower left. LIBERTY arcs across the top rim, stars run down both sides, and the date is stamped at the lower right. The relief is high enough that even on worn examples Liberty’s figure stands well clear of the field.

The reverse shows a bald eagle in flight, wings extended fully forward and body angled downward, sweeping across a field of sun rays that rise from the lower rim. Individual wing feathers are laid in overlapping rows. UNITED STATES OF AMERICA curves along the upper edge with TWENTY DOLLARS beneath it.

Coins are sold as random dates from the 1907 to 1933 series, selected from available inventory. Expect significant wear, surface marks, scratches, edge damage, or evidence of cleaning. Gold weight is unaffected by condition.
