Johnson Matthey traces its origins to 1817, when Percy Johnson set up shop as a gold assayer in London. Only a few decades later in 1852, the firm was appointed the official refiner for the Bank of England. Since then, Johnson Matthey has continued to expand in the bullion industry, as well as branching out into other financial endeavors. They sold their gold and silver refinery operations to Asahi Metals in December of 2014.

Design: The obverse features simplistic engravings, while the reverse remains blank. The famed Johnson Matthey logo is inscribed at the top of the bar. The purity, weight and assayer’s mark can additionally be seen. The minimalist design keeps the focus on the silver that was used to create the bar.
