Fifty Grams of Platinum You Can Divide
This is a 50 gram sheet of .9995 fine platinum, scored into 50 one gram bars that snap apart by hand. It holds 1.6075 troy ounces in total, minted by Valcambi Suisse and sealed in the Valcambi assay card. Buy at the per gram premium of a 50 gram bar, then separate exactly what a sale, a trade or a gift needs.
How the CombiBar Works
The face is a grid of fifty segments, each stamped with the Valcambi logo, the 1 g weight and the .9995 fineness, so a piece broken off still reads as a complete gram bar. The boundaries are pressed most of the way through, so bending a segment at the line breaks it free with no torch and no saw. Each gram is individually serialized, and the assay card carries the matching serial along with the fineness and total weight. The reverse is plain inscriptions, no design.
What You Pay for the Scoring
A CombiBar costs more per gram than a plain 50 gram platinum bar. The scoring, the fifty separate stampings and the assay card all add work, and that sits on top of the platinum price. It is the trade for being able to break the bar down to a gram at a time. If you do not need that, a solid bar is cheaper.
The Platinum Part
Platinum trades in a thinner market than gold or silver. Most of the metal goes to industry, supply comes from a few countries, and the price can move sharply, so the spread between buy and sell is wider than on gold. Once you snap a segment free it is a loose 1 gram platinum bar, harder to sell than one still in the sealed card, so keep the card with the set.
Specifications
The CombiBar is 50 grams of platinum at .9995 fineness, 1.6075 troy ounces, divided into 50 individually serialized 1 gram segments. It measures 74 by 52.5 mm and 0.8 mm thick, with a smooth edge, and ships new in the Valcambi assay card. See the Specifications tab for the full detail.
Platinum CombiBar FAQ
How do the 1 gram bars separate?
They snap apart along the scored lines by hand. Each boundary is pressed most of the way through, so bending a segment at the line breaks it off cleanly, with no tools and no lost metal.
Why does it cost more than a plain 50 gram platinum bar?
Because you are paying for the scoring and the stampings, plus the assay card. A solid 50 gram bar is one strike. The CombiBar is fifty marked and serialized segments in one piece, and that extra work is added to the platinum price.
Does each 1 gram piece hold its value after I break it off?
Within reason. Every segment is stamped and serialized on its own, so a separated piece reads as a complete 1 gram Valcambi bar. A dealer will still price it as a small bar, which carries a higher premium per gram than the 50 gram unit did, and a loose gram is easier to question than one still in the card.
Why platinum instead of gold or silver?
Platinum moves on a different clock, tracking industrial and automotive demand more than the monetary side that drives gold. Some buyers hold a little so their metal does not all move together, but platinum is more volatile and can be slower to sell.
Is this CombiBar IRA eligible?
Yes. Valcambi is a top-tier refiner, and at .9995 fine in a sealed assay card the CombiBar meets the platinum rules for a precious metals IRA, so a custodian can hold it. Whether a divisible bar suits an account is a separate question for your custodian.
