The Bar That Started the CombiBar
When Valcambi issued its first gold CombiBar in April 2011, this was the bar: fifty grams of .9999 gold made of fifty 1 gram bars joined in one sheet. Snap off a single gram, a row of ten, or keep all fifty together. The 20 gram and 100 gram CombiBars came after it, built on the same idea.
Fifty Grams, Ten by Five
One side of the sheet carries the valcambi suisse wordmark, the Valcambi logo, 50 g, fine gold and 999,9, with the assayer’s mark and the bar’s serial number below. Turn it over and the sheet is a grid of fifty small bars, ten across and five down. Each one is stamped with the Valcambi logo, 1 g, fine gold and 999,9, so a piece you break away still reads as gold with its weight and fineness on it.
Sealed with Its Certificate
Valcambi seals every 50 gram CombiBar in a clear plastic blister that opens like a book, with the bar on one side and an orange assay certificate on the other. The certificate gives the fineness, the 50 g weight, the 50 x 1 g layout and a certified assayer’s signature, along with a matching serial number. It also prints a four-step diagram showing how to separate the pieces.
What a Divisible Bar Costs
A CombiBar costs more per gram than a solid 50 gram bar. Stamping fifty separate gram bars into one sheet takes more work than striking a single plain one, and the price reflects that. The gold itself does not change when you break it apart, since fifty single grams still weigh fifty grams. If you never plan to divide it, a solid bar gets you more gold for the money.
Valcambi 50 x 1 gram Gold CombiBar Specifications
The sheet holds 50 grams of .9999 fine gold, which is 1.6075 troy ounces. Valcambi lists it at 74.00 x 52.50 mm and 0.85 mm thick, with a serial number of two letters and six digits. It ships new and is IRA eligible. Full current details are on the Specifications tab.

Was the 50 gram the first CombiBar?
Yes. Valcambi’s first gold CombiBar, issued in April 2011, was a 50 gram bar of fifty detachable 1 gram bars. This is that format, still in production.
Does each 1 gram piece have its own serial number?
No. The serial number belongs to the whole sheet and matches its certificate. Each gram carries the logo, weight and fineness, which is what identifies it once separated.
How do I separate the pieces?
By hand, along the scored lines, no tools needed. The certificate shows the motion in four steps. You can break off one gram or a group and leave the rest joined.
How big is it next to the 100 gram CombiBar?
Exactly half. Both are 74 mm across and 0.85 mm thick, and the 50 gram runs 52.50 mm tall to the 100 gram’s 105 mm. Half the sheet, half the gold.
