A Harder Metal to Source Than Gold or Silver

Platinum bars from an LBMA Good Delivery refiner are harder to come by than gold or silver equivalents from the same house. Valcambi has refined precious metals in Balerna, Switzerland since 1961, and its hallmark clears dealer counters worldwide without a fresh assay each time. Every bar holds one troy ounce of .9995 fine platinum, sealed in Valcambi’s own assay card straight from the refiner.

A Serial Number on the Bar and the Card

The bar carries Valcambi’s logo and the assayer’s mark, along with the inscription 1 OZ PLATINUM 999,5 and an individual serial number engraved into the metal itself. The reverse carries the Valcambi Suisse wordmark over a radiating pattern of concentric lines. That same serial number is printed again on the sealed assay card, so a buyer can match bar to card without needing to test the metal. The serial appears twice, once on the bar and once on the card.

Right at the IRA Purity Floor

Platinum carries the strictest IRA purity requirement of any metal the IRS allows, .9995 fine, compared to .995 for gold and .999 for silver. This bar is assayed at exactly that standard, not comfortably above it the way a .9999 gold bar clears the .995 gold floor. The floor is .9995, and this bar sits right at it.

Checked by Serial, Backed by Accreditation

Confirming a Valcambi platinum bar comes down to matching the serial number stamped on the metal against the number printed on its sealed assay card, backed by the certified assayer’s signature on the card itself. Valcambi’s Good Delivery accreditation from the London Bullion Market Association is what lets the bar trade between dealers without a fresh test each time it changes hands. The serial is the check, matched bar to card.

Valcambi 1 oz Platinum Bar Specifications

Every bar holds one troy ounce of .9995 fine platinum, sealed in Valcambi’s own assay card with a matching serial number. Weight and purity are assayed, matched to the serial on the card. Full current specs are on the Specifications tab above.

Valcambi 1 oz Platinum Bar FAQ

How can I confirm this bar is genuine?

Match the serial number engraved on the bar against the number printed on its sealed assay card, backed by the certified assayer’s signature. The serial number matches, bar to card, on a genuine piece.

Is the Valcambi 1 oz Platinum Bar IRA eligible?

Yes. At .9995 fine, it meets the IRS’s purity requirement for platinum exactly, the strictest bar set for any metal in a precious metals IRA. It meets the standard exactly, not with room to spare the way gold does.

Why is platinum harder to find than gold or silver bars?

Platinum is mined and refined in far smaller volumes than gold or silver, so fewer refiners produce LBMA-accredited platinum bars at all, and the ones that do typically run smaller batches. Fewer refiners make it, which is why selection runs thinner than gold or silver.

What’s stamped on the reverse of the bar?

The Valcambi Suisse wordmark over a radiating pattern of concentric lines, no serial number or assayer’s mark on that side; both of those sit on the front. The back carries the wordmark, the front carries the identifying marks.

What condition does it ship in?

New, straight from the refiner with no handling in between. Condition is new, not a numeric or third-party grade.

Happy with my first full platinum bar. Packaging is clean and precise. Nice brown/maroon plaid paper insert. Makes a great addition to diversifying the typical gold/silver stash. Popular brand helps liquidate faster.
