Valcambi of Balerna

Valcambi was founded in 1961 as Valori & Cambi by a group of Swiss businessmen, and it refines precious metals in Balerna, Switzerland. Today it is one of the largest precious metals refiners and is LBMA accredited. A Swiss refiner’s mark is the whole design.

What Is on the Bar and the Card

The front of the bar carries the Valcambi logo above the words 1 oz, palladium and 999,5, followed by the assayer’s mark. The reverse has the valcambi suisse wordmark set over a field of concentric lines. The card that holds the bar shows a serial number across the top and an assay panel below, listing the fineness as Pd 999,5, the weight as 1 oz / 31,10 g, and the certified assayer’s signature. Serialized bar and card travel together.

A Bar, Not a Coin

This is a refiner’s bar. It carries no denomination and no government backing, and it has no design beyond the logo and the marks that describe the metal. What you are buying is one ounce of palladium in a form that dealers know, priced on the palladium market and moving with it.

It is .9995 fine, stamped on the bar as 999,5 in the European decimal format. That is 99.95% palladium, and 999,5 is the marking to look for on the front.

What comes with the bar?

It comes in an assay card. The card shows a serial number, the fineness, the weight and the certified assayer’s signature. Assay card included, and the bar is new, not a secondary-market piece.

Who is Valcambi?

Valcambi is a Swiss refiner based in Balerna, in the canton of Ticino, founded in 1961 as Valori & Cambi. It is an LBMA-accredited refiner, and its rotated-square logo is the one you will see on the bar.
