The Valcambi 1 gram Platinum Bar is the smallest platinum bar in Valcambi’s minted range: one gram of 999.5 fine platinum, sealed in a dark assay card with a matching serial number on the bar and the card. For folks who want platinum in their stack without committing to a full ounce, it is the lowest-cost platinum bar Valcambi makes.

Half a Millimeter of Platinum

Valcambi cuts its minted bars from specially rolled metal sheet, and the 1 gram platinum bar measures just 8.5 by 15 mm and only 0.5 mm thick. The face carries Valcambi’s square diamond logo, 1g, platinum, 999,5, the CHI essayeur fondeur hallmark and the bar’s own serial number. The back is covered in a fine diagonal pattern of the Valcambi Suisse name.

A Card Without a Signature

The bar sits in a clear window in a black textured card printed ASSAY CERTIFICATE, with the fineness, Pt 999,5, the weight and Valcambi’s certified assayer hallmark. The serial number, two letters and six digits, is printed at the top and matches the one stamped on the bar. There is no assayer’s signature, and that is by design: Valcambi says its assayer licence is issued to the company rather than to a person, so a signature is not needed or legally required. Leave the bar sealed in the card to keep that certificate tied to it.

A Small Bar Carries a Big Premium

A single gram is about 0.032 troy ounces, so making, testing and packaging the bar are a large share of what you pay. Per ounce of platinum, a 1 gram bar costs much more than a 1 oz bar. It suits gifting, trying platinum for the first time, or adding the metal a little at a time, rather than buying the most platinum for the money.

Why doesn’t the assay certificate have a signature?

Valcambi holds its assayer and melter licence as a company, so its certificates carry the certified assayer hallmark instead of a personal signature. Valcambi states that a signature is not necessary or legally required.

Do the serial numbers on the bar and card match?

Yes. Each bar is stamped with its own serial number of two letters and six digits, and the same number is printed at the top of the assay card.

Is the Valcambi 1 gram Platinum Bar IRA eligible?

Our Specifications tab lists it as IRA eligible. At 999.5 fine it meets the minimum purity for platinum, with no margin to spare. It has to be held by your IRA’s custodian, so check with yours before you buy.

Is it better value than a larger platinum bar?

Not per ounce. The fixed cost of making and packaging a 1 gram bar is spread over very little metal, so larger bars carry a much lower premium per ounce of platinum.
