The Spain 25 Pesetas Gold Coin is a classic coin from 19th Century Spain. Collectors like these coins for perhaps their history while investors like that these coins are composed of .90 gold.

Key features:

  • Made of 0.2333 Troy oz of .90 fine gold
  • Coins issued from 1876-1881
  • Face value of 25 Pesetas issued by the Kingdom of Spain

On the obverse side of this coin is the ruler of Spain at the time of issue, King Alfonso XII. This effigy was designed by Gregorio Sellán González. Around the King’s image is written ‘ALFONSO XII “ and ‘POR LA G. DE DIOS’ which translates to ‘By the Grace of God’. At the bottom of the coin is the year of issue.

The reverse side of the coin has Spain’s Coat of Arms. This design is very detailed showing every little detail in the Coat of Arms including what looks like a very sad emaciated animal hanging from the bottom of the Arms. Around the image is written King of Spain in Spanish. At the bottom is ‘25 PESETAS’.

With these coins having a composition of .90 gold, these coins are a good source of gold. Investors love to add gold to their portfolios as a hedge against inflation. Gold has been desirable for thousands of years as something that is beautiful and looks great as jewelry or as accent pieces in art. Gold also is used in modern-day manufacturing so from a practical standpoint the world needs gold. Some believe that gold would make great currency if the financial system were to experience a crisis. Gold could be traded as it was hundreds of years ago as currency.
