The Red River Mint 10 oz Silver Bar is a plain cast bar. It has one hallmark on the front, nothing at all on the back, and ten troy ounces of .999 fine silver between them. Nothing on it is there for decoration.

Red River Mint

Red River Mint is the in-house brand of Dorado Trade Group, which makes the bars in the state of Texas. Dorado produces the brand in three sizes, 10 ounce, kilogram and 100 ounce, and says the brand’s production is ISO 9001:2015 certified. That certification covers how the bars are made, not what they weigh. A Texas house brand, not an independent refiner, which is worth knowing when you compare it with the older names.

One Hallmark, a Blank Back

The front carries a circular hallmark near the top, two stacked R letters divided by a wavy line that stands for the river. RED RIVER MINT sits below it in spaced capitals, and 10 TROY OUNCES over .999 FINE SILVER runs toward the base. The corners are rounded and the edges roll over rather than meeting at a sharp angle. The back is left blank on purpose. The reverse is empty, so the cast surface is all there is to see.

Cast, Not Struck

Cast bars are poured into a mold rather than pressed between dies, and every one comes out a little different. Expect a matte surface that is uneven in places, and expect the blank back to show mottled patches and rough areas where the silver set. Your bar will not match the photos exactly, and that is normal for the format. The weight and fineness are stamped on the front, and surface variation is expected on every bar. It ships new, in protective plastic.

Why is the back of the bar blank?

The design leaves it blank on purpose, with the hallmark and the weight and purity stamps all on the front. One face carries the marks, and the other is the bare cast surface.

Will my bar look like the photos?

Roughly, but not exactly. Every cast bar has its own surface, and the back in particular shows mottling and rough patches that differ from one bar to the next. No two bars match, and the stamps on the front stay the same.

How is the bar packaged?

It ships new in protective plastic. Dorado describes each bar as individually shrink-wrapped, so plastic-wrapped and new is what to expect when it arrives.

Does Red River Mint make bigger bars?
