The Peace silver dollar was born from the end of the First World War, struck from 1921 to 1935 to mark the return of peace and to convert millions of ounces of Treasury silver into coin. Each dollar contains 0.7734 troy oz of pure silver in a 90% silver alloy, and examples in this listing grade Very Good (VG), honestly worn from circulation with all major design elements intact. Dates and mintmarks are of our choice; the coin shown is a 1924-S.
Key Features:
- Purity and Weight: 90% silver, 10% copper, with 0.7734 oz t of silver per coin
- Coin: Genuine US Peace dollar, VG condition, random date 1921–1935
- Obverse Design: Anthony de Francisci’s Liberty in a radiant crown
- Reverse Design: A perched eagle clutching an olive branch above the word PEACE
The obverse presents Anthony de Francisci’s Liberty, modeled on his wife Teresa, her hair swept back and her head crowned by spiked rays in the manner of the Statue of Liberty. LIBERTY spans the top rim between the rays, IN GOD WE TRVST crosses the field with its distinctive Roman-style V, and the date sits below the neckline. VG examples show smooth high points on the cheek and hair while the portrait, legends, and date remain fully readable.
The reverse perches a bald eagle on a rocky crag, wings folded, gripping an olive branch as rays of sunrise fan behind it. UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and E PLURIBUS UNUM arc overhead, ONE DOLLAR flanks the bird, and the word PEACE rests on the rock below, the only US circulating coin ever inscribed with it.
Peace dollars were the last true silver dollars struck for American commerce, and worn examples carry that history at close to melt value. Circulated 90% silver also stays liquid in any market, coin by coin or by the roll.
A genuine artifact of the twenties with real silver weight makes the VG Peace dollar an affordable piece of the past. Order yours today.
