This is a quarter troy ounce of .9999 fine gold, struck by PAMP in Switzerland as Solomon Islands legal tender. The reverse shows the Statue of Liberty’s crowned face and rays, and every coin comes sealed in a PAMP assay card that states its fineness, weight and proof quality. The Lady in the Harbor
France gave the Statue of Liberty to the United States, and it was dedicated in New York Harbor on October 28, 1886. The sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi built her as a figure of liberty lighting the way, and for generations of immigrants arriving by sea she was the first thing they saw of America.
PAMP did not put the whole statue on this coin. The reverse moves in close on her face and crown, with the spiked rays of the crown fanning out behind her head. The assay card repeats the same view large in the background, so the coin sits inside a bigger picture of the statue it is taken from.
On the coin in our photos, the obverse carries the Solomon Islands’ legal tender details: the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley, with “SOLOMON ISLANDS”, “AU 999.9”, “25 DOLLARS” and the year of issue around the rim. That combination is why this piece is a coin rather than a round. A private round has no issuing government and no face value. This one has both.

It is a coin. The Solomon Islands issues it as legal tender with a $25 face value, and the obverse carries the national inscriptions and the monarch’s portrait. A round is a private strike with no face value.
Why is a coin with the Statue of Liberty from the Solomon Islands?

Should I take the coin out of the assay card?
