The Morgan 1 oz Silver Bar carries the Liberty portrait from the Morgan silver dollar on a bar holding one troy ounce of .999 fine silver. It is made by Highland Mint, stamped Made in U.S.A., and sold new. The design is one of the best known in American coinage, and here it comes at a bullion price rather than a collector’s one.

A Portrait From 1878

George T. Morgan, an assistant engraver at the United States Mint, designed the dollar that carries his name. It was struck from 1878 to 1904 and again in 1921, and his Liberty was modeled by Anna Willess Williams. The bar borrows the portrait only. It is not a coin and carries no denomination.

What Is on the Bar

The front opens with a round medallion holding Liberty in left-facing profile, with E PLURIBUS UNUM arched above her. Beneath it, a tall numeral 1 runs down the middle of the bar, with One Troy Ounce across the top of it and FINE SILVER and 999+ across the center. A raised panel at the base reads Made in U.S.A. The back is covered edge to edge in a raised diamond grid, rows of small squares set on the diagonal, and the corners of the bar are rounded.
