Just in time for the 50th Anniversary of the release of Diamonds Are Forever, the classic James Bond film starring Sean Connery, comes the Diamonds Are  Forever 1 oz Silver bar from the Royal Mint. Diamonds Are Forever was the 7th film in the James Bond Series and was based on Ian Fleming’s hit book. Of the 7 films, Sean Connery appeared in six of them. Sean Connery was supposed to be succeeded by George Lazemby who was signed for seven Bond films. However, on the advice of his agent, Lazemby didn’t want to return as Bond. This made a difficult predicament when it came time to make ‘Diamonds Are Forever’. Many leading men were considered for the role but none of them were working out. The decision was then made to bring back Sean Connery and they must do whatever it takes to get Connery to make this film. They ended up paying him $1.25 million to play James Bond again. Bond fans all over the world have their favorite actor for the role but many still count Sean Connery as the perfect James Bond.

 

The Royal Mint created these bars to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Diamonds Are Forever. In keeping with the film’s vibe, they incorporated elements into the silver bar. 

 

On the obverse of the bar is the Royal Mint’s logo and the official 007 logo. 007 is James Bond’s designation as an agent of MI6 and has a license to kill if necessary as approved by the Queen herself. At the bottom of this side is ‘1 oz 999.9 FINE SILVER’. The background of this side has a diamond pattern.

 

The reverse of the bar has ‘DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER’ with the word ‘FOREVER repeated and fading off into the distance. There are several images of diamonds in the background.
