The Indian Skull 1oz Silver Round takes a classic coin design and makes it into something thought-provoking and poignant. This round was designed by Spanish artist, Paolo Curcio and looks stunning in .999 fine silver. What is extraordinary is that Curcio usually creates his art from an existing coin but here he designed a round from scratch and it is magnificent and unusual.

Key features:

  • 1st design in the United Snakes of America collection.
  • Only 50,000 rounds created worldwide
  • Made of  1 Troy oz of .999 pure silver
  • The obverse side of the coin has a Native American depicted as a skull
  • Reverse side has the Heraldic Snakes-snakes arranged in the shape of the heraldic eagle.
  • Designed by Paolo Curcio.

Spanish artist, Paolo Curcio, known as Mr. The in the art world, is best known for his highly detailed art he makes by etching away at a nickel and making it into a beautiful, detailed piece of art. Mr. The specializes in whittling away the layers of a coin revealing the colors of the metals inside which add to the complexity of the design. This art style is called Hobo coins after the trend in history of homeless people turning coins into art. The United Snakes of America collection explores the underbelly of the United States and the corruption and greed that exists in it.

The obverse side features a rendition of James Earle Fraser’s design of the Native American chieftain that appeared on the Buffalo Nickel from 1913-1938. Like Frasers design the chieftain is in profile and facing to the right. Mr. The’s design shows the chieftain’s face as a skull stripped of life, perhaps a reference to the dark history that the United States has had with the Native American people. Above the chieftain is ‘Liberty’ and at the bottom is ‘1937’.

The reverse of the coins has what at first glance might look like the heraldic eagle which is featured on many different coins but is actually ‘heraldic snakes’ with snakes forming what looks like the feathers of an eagle’s wings behind a shield. The head of what would be an eagle is a snake’s head instead. This image may be a reference to the ‘snakes’ that exist in government offices. This estimation is echoed in the text above the image, ‘United Snakes of America’. Below is ‘999 FINE SILVER ONE OUNCE’.

If you are a fan of the Buffalo Nickel or love Native American art, or love the art of Mr. The, then you will love the Indian Skull 1 oz Silver Round. Don’t miss out on your chance to buy this great coin.
