The Incuse Indian copies one of the strangest experiments in American coinage. In 1908, sculptor Bela Lyon Pratt sank the design of the $2.50 and $5 gold pieces below the field instead of raising it above, producing the only U.S. coins ever struck that way. Golden State Mint reproduces that treatment here in one troy ounce of .999 fine silver, at the low premium private rounds are known for.
Key Features:
- Purity and Weight: 1 troy ounce (31.103 grams) of .999 fine silver
- Metal Type: Investment-grade silver, struck by Golden State Mint
- Obverse Design: Native American chief in a feathered war bonnet
- Reverse Design: Standing eagle on arrows with an olive branch
The obverse shows a Native American chief in left-facing profile wearing a full war bonnet, the feathers laid out in long ranked rows behind a beaded headband. A braid falls in front of his shoulder and a decorated collar sits at the base of the bust. LIBERTY runs across the top in blocked capitals, with thirteen stars ringing the border. Because the relief is cut into the surface rather than raised from it, the design sits flush with the field and the round stacks flat.
The reverse carries an eagle standing in profile facing left, wings folded, perched on a bundle of arrows with an olive branch running beneath its talons. GOLDEN STATE MINT arcs across the top. E PLURIBUS UNUM is stacked in three lines at the left, IN GOD WE TRUST in four lines at the right, and 1 TROY OZ .999 FINE SILVER runs along the bottom rim.
Rounds measure approximately 39 mm across with a reeded edge. New pieces arrive bright and unhandled in protective sleeves or tubes depending on quantity. Rounds are not legal tender, but weight and purity are stamped directly into the metal.
Pratt’s original gold pieces trade in the thousands. This gives you the same design in silver at bullion pricing. Order yours today and we will ship it insured in discreet packaging.

Good Value for bullion. Purchased 100.
Most if not all had blemishes (some scratches) on the CHEEK. Definitely duller than most silver rounds, even some milk spotting on back side. Bought this for the silver mainly.
