On the obverse side of the coin is the Emperor Franz Josef, ruler of Hungary during this time period. Unusual for an effigy is the fact that this design has his full body and not just his head. Here he is shown wearing a long flowing robe and holding a scepter in one hand. On his other hand is what looks like the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch from Monty Python and The Holy Grail but is in fact the ‘globus cruciger’, a Christian symbol of authority.
The reverse side of the coin has a blend of two Coats of Arms, that of Hungary and the Habsburgs, the ruling family of Hungary until World War I broke up the empire. Framing the coat of arms are two angels. Above the image is ‘MAGYAR KYRALYSAG’ which is Hungarian for ‘Kingdom of Hundary’.
The Hungary 20 Korona Gold Coin is a unique coin that is literally a piece of European history. This coin is a good way to add some gold and a unique design that has a full body effigy of its ruler which is pretty rare in coins. Get yours today.
