Two Ounces on One Round

This is two troy ounces of .999 fine silver in a single round, double the standard unit, struck by Golden State Mint with its Bald Eagle design. The wider 47 mm blank gives the eagles and the flag more room and deeper relief than a one ounce round can hold. It is bullion first, bought for the silver and the look, not for rarity.

Two Eagles and a Flag

The obverse puts two bald eagles on one face: a mature bird in right-facing profile, beak parted and crown feathers cut in fine strokes, with a second eagle swooping across the foreground, wings spread nearly rim to rim. STRENGTH, FREEDOM and PRIDE arc across the top between stars, and IN GOD WE TRUST sits beside the beak. The reverse is a rippling American flag, the stripes and star field stippled against polished folds so the design shifts as the round turns under light. TWO TROY OUNCES .999 FINE SILVER and GOLDEN STATE MINT are struck into the borders.

What a Private Round Is

Say it plainly: this is a privately struck round, not a coin. It has no face value, no legal tender status, and no mintage limit, and Golden State Mint can strike more whenever demand calls for it. What you get for that is a low premium over the metal price, close to what a plain bar costs, with a design on it.

The Trade-Off of the 2 oz Size

Going to two ounces cuts the piece count in half and gives you fewer flips to store, count and insure. The catch is that one ounce rounds and government coins are the more common resale unit, so a two ounce private round can be a touch slower to move when you sell. It also needs a larger capsule and tube than the 39 mm size most storage is built around.

Specifications

Each round is two troy ounces of .999 fine silver, 47 mm across and about 4.08 mm thick, with a reeded edge, and it ships new from the mint. Tubes hold 25 rounds. See the Specifications tab for the full detail and current packaging.

GSM Bald Eagle Round FAQ

Is this a coin?

No. It is a round struck by a private mint, Golden State Mint, so it carries no denomination and is not legal tender. The value is in the two ounces of .999 silver and the design, not in any government backing.

Why buy one 2 oz round instead of two 1 oz rounds?

Mostly to handle fewer pieces. A single two ounce round takes one flip and one slot instead of two, and the larger face carries deeper relief. The tradeoff is that one ounce rounds trade more readily, so pick the two ounce for consolidation, not for resale speed.

Is it real .999 silver, and is it IRA eligible?

Yes on the silver: two full troy ounces of .999 fine, stamped into the round itself. Hero Bullion lists it as IRA eligible at that fineness. Some custodians are stricter about private rounds than about sovereign coins, so confirm yours accepts Golden State Mint before it goes into an account.

How are these packaged?

They ship new from the mint in a protective flip or tube, with 25 rounds to a full tube. Larger orders may come in sealed mint tubes depending on how much is in stock.

What is the design about?

It is Golden State Mint’s Bald Eagle series, built around the national bird. The obverse pairs a portrait eagle with a diving one under the words STRENGTH, FREEDOM and PRIDE, and the reverse carries the American flag. The series also runs in smaller sizes.

Stacking in bigger units? The rest of our 2 oz silver rounds sit together, from private mints across the country.
