Read the Serial Number
On many Engelhard ten-ounce bars, the letter in front of the serial number tells you where the bar was made. According to the collector reference allengelhard.com, a P prefix marks the Plainville, Massachusetts plant and a C prefix marks the Carteret, New Jersey plant. The best-known ten-ounce bars are the poured P-prefix series from the late 1970s and the pressed bars that followed them, and later struck bars carry both P and C prefixes. The prefix tells the story, and collectors track these series closely because many of the bars were melted over the years.
A Common Style
The bar in our photos is a struck example. The front carries Engelhard’s globe-and-E logo, then 10 TROY OUNCES, FINE SILVER and 999+, the ENGELHARD name in an outlined cartouche and a C-prefix serial number in a panel at the base. The back is tiled on the diagonal with the ENGELHARD name repeated in outlined bars over a stippled field. Other styles ship too, including poured bars with rougher surfaces and different logo and lettering layouts, and an order of several bars may arrive mixed.
Originals, Not the 2025 Liberty Bar
In 2025 the Engelhard name returned under license, and the relaunch included a new ten-ounce silver bar modeled on Engelhard’s 1986 Liberty designs, sold through a single online dealer. That is a separate, current-production bar. This listing is original Engelhard stock, so the supply here comes only from bars already in circulation.
Used, and Priced for the Name
These are secondary-market bars, so we list the condition as used. Expect toning, spotting, scratches or edge marks from years of storage and handling. None of it changes the silver. The Engelhard name carries a premium over a generic ten-ounce bar, and that premium is what you pay for the history. Condition reflects age, not the metal.

Relatively new to stacking and every but often I’d here bout “Engelhard” brand silver bars, and there always seemed to be extra
excitement surrounding any bullion with the Engelhard name attached, however I had no idea what was such a big deal with this brand, so naturally I did a lil’ reading…and wow, such fascinating American history behind the Engelhard name, and Engelhard (Jr. I think)was the real-life inspiration for the fictional 007 Goldfinger character….So cool…Soooo…now I get it, and of course with Hero having some of this vintage silver at a very reasonable prices, naturally i had to snag a few rounds and one nice n’ husky 10oz Engelhard Ag Bar…as a rule of thumb i only stack government issued bullion (mostly American & Canadian) but after learning about the American legend whose name once was synonymous with world renowned, exceptional quality bullion products..im very happy to make an exception to my rule and to own a few pieces of really cool history without breaking the bank..
