The Draugr, a Sand-Cast Revenant in 1.5 oz of Silver

The Draugr round is 1.5 troy ounces of .999 fine silver, sand-cast in a run of 25 by Hero Bullion and the independent producer Jack Silver. It brings the restless dead of the Norse sagas into the same collaboration that produced the Berserker, the Valkyrie and the Stormbringer.

The Dead Who Would Not Stay Buried

In Nordic folklore the draugr is a malevolent revenant, a corpse that refuses to rest. The Icelandic sagas place draugar in their graves and burial mounds, often guarding treasure buried with them, and give them superhuman strength. The sagas describe them as hel-blár, death-blue, or nár-fölr, corpse-pale, and Glámr in Grettis saga is one example. Norwegian folklore kept the draugr alive long after the sagas, including the sea draugr.

Poured in Sand

Rather than being pressed between dies, each Draugr is cast from molten silver in a sand mold. That leaves a rugged, textured surface and a slightly irregular edge, a battle-worn look that suits a creature risen from a grave mound. Because each piece is poured on its own, no two are exactly alike.
