On the obverse side of the coin we have the history of Cannabis as it was associated with hippies and the counterculture movement. Around the coin are different words that have been used for marijuana including ‘Pot’, ‘Grass’, ‘Weed’ and ‘Blunt’. At the center is the Cannabis leaf and several smaller leaves around the coin.
The reverse side seems to celebrate how Cannabis is moving into mainstream with the medical symbol, the staff of Hermes, in the middle and the molecular structure of THC at the bottom. This reminds us that medical marijuana is now used to treat a variety of medical conditions. The staff has two wings at the top of the staff and two snakes entwined going up the staff.
