The obverse side of the coin showcases a bust of King George V, adorned with a crown, facing left. The design was crafted by Edgar Bertram MacKennal.

The reverse side features the Canada coats of arms as given by Queen Victoria on May 26, 1868. Lying atop two crossed maple branches, the shield is divided into four sections, each representing the coats of arms of the four provinces that formed Canada. This design, considered the most beautiful on a Canadian coin, was created by William Henry James Blakemore.
