During World War 2 The United States sold war bonds to pay for the war and advertised these war bonds with full color posters. The Osborne Mint has put one of the most popular posters on a 2 oz Silver Bar in .9999 fine silver. This design features a poster with a scene from the Normandy Beach invasion to invoke patriotism and convince the people to buy bonds to help fuel the war effort.
- 2 Troy ounces of .9999 fine silver
- 2nd in Osborne Mint’s Fight for Freedom’s Sake series
- Obverse side has a picture of the Normandy beach invasion with the background in full color
- Reverse side has a soldier firing his weapon as two more soldiers advance at the bottom right is a picture of a tank and plane
The obverse side of the bar is stunning with a scene depicted in landscape orientation from the Normandy Beach Invasion. In the foreground are soldiers advancing up the beach. In the background is some of the chaos these soldiers experienced. Amphibious vehicles are blowing up and a plane is going down in flames. The background is in full color in sharp contrast to the non-colorized soldiers in the foreground. This gives the scene a 3-D kind of effect. At the bottom of the landscaped oriented scene are the words imploring us to ‘Buy the Invasion Bond’. At the bottom (when held vertically) of the bar is the individual serial number.
On the reverse of the bar is a vertical scene that is on the reverse of all the bars in this series. A soldier is standing up and giving cover fire as two more soldiers are advancing. Above the soldiers it says “The Fight”. At the bottom of this side is ‘For Freedom’s Sake’ with a cutout scene of a plane flying over a tank perhaps in reference to the fact that the allies dominated the skies. Between the soldier’s scene and the name of the series, is ‘2 oz .999 Fine Silver’.
This bar would look great in your collection. It is nice to have silver bars in your portfolio but it is best to have bars that tell a story rather than just lying there in a stack. Get yours today.
