One of the best ways to add some silver to your collection or portfolio is with classic coins from the United States currency that have high silver content. You get a great design produced by the United States Mint and is backed by the United States Government. One of those classic coins is the Silver Roosevelt dimes from between 1946-1964. Here are fifty of them in brilliant uncirculated condition.

Key features:

  • Made with approximately 3.615 oz actual total Silver weight
  • Dimes are packaged in a roll of 50-packaging may vary
  • Total face value of $5 backed by the United States
  • Dates vary between 1946-1964 and are subject to stock on hand

Prior to 1965 many United States coins contained at least 90% silver. In 1965, the decision was made to phase out silver from the currency. Today, many collectors like to include some of these ‘junk coins’ in their portfolios. These coins are considered ‘junk’ for their design which isn’t something inherently collectible. The silver content of these coins is the reason why they are highly sought after. You can trust that these coins are definitely certified to be 90% silver.

On the obverse of these coins is a portrait of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. This is John R Sinnock’s design and features the president in profile facing to the left. This design was chosen for the dime in his honor shortly after his death in 1945. This coin is not without controversy. Some claimed that the JS initials at the base stood for Joseph Stalin and not the artist’s initials. Another controversy is that some said it was copied after a bust done by African American artist, Selma Burke. Sinnock denied this and stated that he used one of his previous designs for inspiration. Above the picture of Roosevelt is written “LIBERTY’. At the lower left side of the coin is ‘IN GOD WE TRUST’. Below the image is the year of minting.  The year varies on these coins and is subject to stock on hand.

The reverse side has a torch with a sprig of olive and a sprig of oak to each side of it. Above the image is ‘UNITED STATES OF AMERICA”. Below the image is ‘ONE DIME”. In the background of the image is ‘E PLURIBUS UNUM’.
