Before 1965, every dime that passed through American commerce contained real silver. Roosevelt dimes struck from 1946 through 1964 are composed of 90% silver and 10% copper — the same composition used in U.S. coinage dating back to the early 19th century. A $5 face value roll puts fifty of these coins together in one transaction, offering a practical and affordable way to accumulate 90% silver in a format that dealers and collectors recognize worldwide.

Key Features:

  • Composition & Silver Content: 90% silver, 10% copper — 3.615 troy oz of pure silver per $5 face value roll
  • Coins Per Roll: 50 Roosevelt dimes
  • Face Value: $5 USD, fully backed by the U.S. government
  • Date Range: 1946–1964; specific dates vary by available inventory
  • Obverse Design: Left-facing portrait of President Franklin D. Roosevelt; inscribed “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and the year of issue
  • Reverse Design: A flaming torch at center flanked by an olive branch on the left and an oak branch on the right; inscribed “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” and “ONE DIME”
  • Condition: Brilliant Uncirculated (BU)
  • Packaging: Sealed plastic coin tube

The obverse carries a left-facing portrait of Franklin D. Roosevelt, introduced in 1946 — the year following his death — as a tribute to the president who had championed the March of Dimes foundation during his battle with polio. “LIBERTY” arcs above, “IN GOD WE TRUST” appears at the lower left, and the date sits at the lower right. The coin shown dates to 1964, the final year of 90% silver production for the series.

The reverse centers on a lit torch, its flame cleanly defined at the top. An olive branch extends to the left and an oak branch to the right — representing peace and strength respectively. “E PLURIBUS UNUM” runs horizontally across the mid-field, and “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “ONE DIME” arc around the border. In Brilliant Uncirculated condition, the design elements retain full mint sharpness with no wear on the torch bands or branch details — the first areas to show friction on circulated examples.

Each roll contains 50 coins housed in a clear plastic tube, representing $5 in face value and 3.615 troy ounces of pure silver. Specific dates and mint marks within the 1946–1964 range will vary. All coins are genuine 90% silver U.S. issues struck at the Philadelphia, Denver, or San Francisco Mint.
