The obverse side of this coin features the last Aztec emperor, Cuauhtémoc  He is widely celebrated as a hero and is commonly honored in statues and coins throughout Mexico. Cuauhtémoc is beloved for his being the only Aztec emperor to survive the conquest of Spain. His name translates to “one who has descended like an eagle” referring to the way an eagle dives toward its prey. The name captures the determination and aggressiveness of the eagle’s dive and this great leader.  Written above him is ‘Tenth Troy Ounce’. Under his portrait is ‘999 Fine Silver’. Right below is his name, ‘Cuauhtémoc’.

On the reverse of the coin, is the highly detailed Aztec calendar. The Golden State has demonstrated great skill in minting this coin with so much detail.
