The Asahi 1 oz Silver Round has no portrait, no landscape and no legend. What it has is a refiner’s logo, and that is the point. Every round holds one troy ounce of .999 fine silver, made by Asahi Refining.

The Refiner Behind the Round

Asahi’s roots go back to Tokyo in 1952, when Asahi Holdings started out as a precious metals recycler. In 2015 that company bought Johnson Matthey’s gold and silver refineries in Salt Lake City and Brampton, Ontario, and those operations became Asahi Refining. At the sale, Johnson Matthey’s London Good Delivery status transferred to each refinery, so Asahi is a London Good Delivery refiner. That is the credential behind the name on the face.

What Is on Each Face

The obverse puts the Asahi logo at the center of a circular border, with ASAHI over REFINING beneath it. 1 OUNCE TROY arcs across the top and FINE SILVER 999 runs along the bottom. The reverse skips the scene and repeats the logo across the whole field in diagonal rows, edge to edge, so the pattern is the design.

A Plain Round, Priced on Silver

This is a private round from a refiner, not a coin from a government mint. It carries no denomination and no government backing, and it makes no claim to collectible rarity. If you are after art or history, other rounds tell a bigger story. If you want ounces with a recognized name on them, you are buying silver, not artwork.

Who is Asahi Refining?

Asahi Refining is the refiner that grew out of Asahi Holdings’ 2015 purchase of Johnson Matthey’s gold and silver refineries in Salt Lake City and Brampton. It is a London Good Delivery refiner, and that status is why dealers know the name.

Is the Asahi round a coin?

No. It is a private round, so it has no denomination stamped on it and no government behind it. Its value is the silver, not a number on the rim.

Why is there no portrait or scene on it?

The refiner’s logo is the whole design. The obverse centers it and the reverse repeats it across the field. Logo only, by design, which is what you get when the maker’s name is the selling point.

Is the Asahi round IRA eligible?

Yes. Both our Specifications tab and U.S. Gold Bureau list it as IRA eligible, so it can go in a qualifying precious metals IRA.
