    The American Silver Eagle is the best-selling silver coin in the world, struck by the US Mint since 1986 and backed by the United States government. Each coin contains one troy ounce of .999 fine silver with a $1 face value, making it the default choice for stackers, IRA accounts, and collectors building date runs. Coins ship as random years of our choosing, bearing either reverse type.

    The obverse carries Adolph Weinman’s Walking Liberty, first struck on the half dollar in 1916 and widely ranked among the finest designs in American coinage. Liberty strides toward a rising sun draped in the flag, her right arm extended and an armful of oak and laurel branches at her shoulder, with LIBERTY around the rim and IN GOD WE TRUST in the field. The reverse depends on the year you receive. Coins from 1986 through mid-2021 carry the heraldic eagle by John Mercanti, a shield-breasted eagle holding arrows and an olive branch beneath thirteen stars. Coins from mid-2021 onward show Emily Damstra’s landing eagle, wings flared as it descends to grip an oak branch. Both types are ringed by UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, 1 OZ. FINE SILVER, and ONE DOLLAR.

     

    Coins arrive in Brilliant Uncirculated condition with full mint luster, a 40.6 mm diameter, and a reeded edge, specifications every dealer in the country recognizes on sight.

      In general I think HB is a great dealer and I still recommend buying from him. However I was not pleased with my order of 30 ASE’s here. About half of them were scratched or milk spotted, and one even had a giant fingerprint on it. Not BU quality. I’ve bought Britannias from him as well and they were all flawless, beautiful coins. So he’s probably having trouble sourcing decent ASEs, which is understandable in this market. I would still order from HB in the future though, just not ASE’s. With premiums like that they should be BU.
