The Barber Half Dollar ran from 1892 to 1915, and a $1 face value lot of these 90% silver coins puts approximately 0.715 troy oz of pure silver in your hands at a price tied directly to metal content. Two coins, two half dollars, straightforward math. Collectors prize the Barber series for its age and the worn character that surviving circulated examples carry; silver buyers appreciate the well-established 90% silver calculation in a universally recognized U.S. government-issued format.

Key Features:

  • Purity and Weight: 90% silver (.900 fine); approximately 0.715 troy oz of pure silver per $1 face value (2 coins)
  • Metal: Silver
  • Condition: Good+ — circulated, with major design elements visible and dates legible on most coins
  • Date Range: 1892–1915; dates and mint marks will vary
  • Obverse Design: Right-facing bust of Liberty in a laureled helmet, “IN GOD WE TRUST” below the portrait, stars around the border, date at the bottom
  • Reverse Design: Heraldic eagle with spread wings, shield on chest, olive branch and arrows in talons; “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “HALF DOLLAR” around the border

The obverse carries the Barber Liberty portrait — a right-facing bust of Liberty wearing a laureled Roman helmet, designed by U.S. Mint Chief Engraver Charles E. Barber. “IN GOD WE TRUST” curves below the portrait, 13 stars ring the border, and the date sits centered at the base. At Good+ grade, the portrait outline and helmet remain clear, with the face and finer helmet detail softened by decades of active circulation. Dates visible across coins in this lot include 1906 and 1908, though dates across any given lot will vary throughout the 1892–1915 range.

The reverse presents a heraldic eagle with wings spread wide, a striped shield on its chest, an olive branch gripped in one talon and a bundle of arrows in the other. “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” arcs across the top and “HALF DOLLAR” runs along the lower border. At this grade, the eagle’s outline and wing spread remain fully legible, with surface detail worn flat on the highest points. The patina across the lot runs from medium gray to deep charcoal toning, typical of coins with this level of age and circulation.

These coins are sold as junk silver in Good+ condition — no grades are assigned to individual pieces, and dates and mint marks will vary. The lot contains two Barber half dollars totaling $1 face value. Coins ship loose without special packaging.

Over 0.715 troy oz of 90% U.S. silver, more than a century of age, and a price tied to metal value rather than numismatic premium make Barber halves one of the most practical junk silver buys available. Add a $1 Face Value 90% Silver Barber Half Dollar lot to your cart today.
