The Franklin Half Dollar ran from 1948 to 1963, and a full $100 face value bag of these 90% silver coins represents one of the most practical bulk silver purchases available. Each half dollar contains just over 0.36 troy oz of pure silver, putting the total silver content of this bag at approximately 72.34 troy oz. Stackers value the math; collectors appreciate the Franklin’s clean mid-century design and its status as the last U.S. half dollar struck before the Kennedy series replaced it in 1964.

Key Features:

  • Purity and weight: 90% silver (.900 fine); approximately 72.34 troy oz of pure silver per $100 face value bag (200 coins)
  • Metal: Silver
  • Obverse design: Left-facing portrait of Benjamin Franklin, “LIBERTY” above, “IN GOD WE TRUST” below, date at the bottom
  • Reverse design: Liberty Bell at center, “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “HALF DOLLAR” around the border; small eagle visible at lower right per U.S. Mint requirement

The obverse carries a left-facing portrait of Benjamin Franklin — one of America’s founding fathers and the figure most associated with the Liberty Bell the reverse depicts. The inscription “LIBERTY” arcs above his portrait, and “IN GOD WE TRUST” appears below. The date is struck at the bottom of the obverse field. The reverse centers the Liberty Bell in moderate relief, with “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” arcing across the top and “HALF DOLLAR” along the lower border. A small eagle appears at the lower right, included at the requirement of U.S. Mint regulations in effect at the time. Coins in this bag show circulated wear consistent with junk silver, with patina ranging from light gray to deeper toning across individual pieces.

The bag ships in a Hero Bullion branded canvas bag secured with a cable tie, a durable format suited for storing and transporting bulk silver. Coins are sold as junk silver — no grades assigned, dates and mint marks will vary across the 200-coin lot.
