A Kilo of Silver for the Year of the Goat
This is a one kilo silver coin, .9999 fine, struck by the Perth Mint for 2027 as the Year of the Goat piece in Lunar Series III. A kilo of silver is 32.151 troy ounces. It is legal tender in Australia at 30 dollars, and the goat design is used for this year only.
Goats, Blossom and the King
The reverse, by Natasha Muhl, shows a mature goat, a young goat and a kid resting among rocks, with a plum blossom tree at one side and hills behind. The Perth Mint reads the scene as “Three Goats Bring Bliss,” a picture of winter turning to spring and of new beginnings, and the blossom tree adds resilience and hope. The goat character sits above GOAT 2027, next to the P mintmark. The obverse is Dan Thorne’s portrait of King Charles III, with CHARLES III, AUSTRALIA, 1 KILO 9999 Ag and 30 DOLLARS around the rim.
What a Kilo Coin Is For
A kilo coin carries the lowest premium per ounce in the Goat release, because the fixed costs of striking spread across the most silver. The trade is size: it is over 100 mm across and more than a kilogram, it sells as one whole unit rather than by the ounce, it needs a large capsule and its own space, and it moves through a narrower resale market than one ounce coins. It is a consolidation and display piece.
Struck Past 2027
The 2027 1 Kilo Australian Lunar Year of the Goat Silver Coin has an unlimited mintage. Unlike most unlimited-mintage coins in Perth Mint’s 2027 Lunar bullion program, production of the 1 kilo silver coin is not required to end in 2027. Perth Mint may continue striking 2027-dated 1 kilo Goat coins during the remaining life of Australian Lunar Series III, with the final declared mintage determined after production closes.

It has no mintage limit. A micro-engraved letter on the reverse is a security feature, readable only under magnification. See the Specifications tab for packaging and the full detail.
Lunar Goat Coin FAQ
How much silver is in a kilo coin?
32.151 troy ounces, which is exactly one kilogram. That is a little less than the 35 ounces a kilo works out to in avoirdupois, so price and compare it in troy.
Is there a mintage limit?
No, and there is no closing date either. The kilo Goat is the only size the Perth Mint strikes past 2027, so it never gets a declared final mintage. The 1 oz Goat is the capped size, at 300,000.
Why is the premium lower than on smaller coins?
Because the cost of striking and handling one coin is close to fixed, and on a kilo it is carried by 32 ounces of silver instead of one or two. Big coins always run the lowest premium per ounce, with the tradeoff that you buy and sell them whole.
What do the three goats mean?
The Perth Mint links the group to “Three Goats Bring Bliss,” a phrase about the end of winter, the start of spring, and renewal. The plum blossom tree in the design carries the same idea.
Is this coin IRA eligible?
Yes. At .9999 fine from a sovereign mint, it meets the silver standard for a precious metals IRA. Confirm your custodian handles kilo coins, since some prefer smaller units for storage.
