Arminius, the Chieftain Who Stopped Rome, in Two Ounces of NGC MS70 Silver
The 2026 Arminius coin is the fourteenth release in the Legendary Warriors series, struck in 2 troy ounces of .999 fine silver in antiqued high relief with gold gilding, and this one is graded MS70 by NGC. Only 500 were made.
The Teutoburg Forest, AD 9
Arminius was born in Germania and trained in the Roman military, where he came to understand Roman tactics and discipline. In AD 9 he turned that knowledge against it. He united several Germanic tribes, drew three Roman legions under the governor Varus into the Teutoburg Forest and destroyed them in an ambush. The defeat ended Rome’s push east of the Rhine and made Arminius a lasting figure of resistance.
A Warrior in Gold Over Antiqued Silver
The design puts Arminius in the thick of the battle, raising a gilded sword as Roman soldiers struggle beneath him, with forest in the background as a nod to the ambush. Selective gold gilding picks out the key elements against the antiqued silver, and the high-relief sculpting lets the figure stand well above the field. The other side carries an arrangement of historical weapons around the Public Seal of Niue.
The Next to Last of Fifteen
Legendary Warriors is a 15-coin series of two ounce silver coins from T&S Coins, each honoring a famous warrior in antiqued high relief with gilded highlights. Arminius is the fourteenth, leaving one release to close the series, and it is a $5 Niue coin limited to 500 pieces worldwide.
Graded at the Top of NGC’s Scale
NGC’s 70 means no post-production imperfections at 5x magnification, the highest grade on its scale.
This is a collectible. Its value comes from its grade, rarity, and design rather than its metal weight alone.
