2025 Superman 2.5 oz Silver Medal, NGC MS70 Early Releases

The larger of the U.S. Mint’s two Superman silver medals, 2.5 troy ounces of 99.9% fine silver at 50.80 mm across, certified by NGC as MS70 Early Releases. NGC lists it as the DC Comics 2025 Superman 2.5oz Silver Medal, an MS issue, with an Early Releases cutoff of November 5, 2025.

Superman at Two Inches

At 50.80 mm, about two inches, this medal gives the Superman designs their widest silver canvas. The obverse by Chief Engraver Joseph Menna, a former DC artist, shows Superman flying over the farm where the Kents raised him, under the sun that powers him. The reverse turns to Clark Kent as a young adult, lost in thought as a plane passes overhead while his father watches, with SUPERMAN and HOPE AND STRENGTH.

The Limited Size, One Per Household

The one ounce Superman had no mintage limit. The 2.5 ounce medal was a limited issue, and when pre-orders opened at noon Eastern on July 24, 2025, the Mint capped each household at one for the first 24 hours, the same cap it set on the gold coin.

Early Releases for the 2.5 oz

NGC grants Early Releases to pieces received within 30 days of release by NGC or an approved depository. For the 2.5 ounce Superman, NGC set the cutoff at November 5, 2025, after a release the Mint expected to ship by early fall. The designation marks timing and is separate from the MS70 grade, which NGC gives only when it finds no post-production imperfections at 5x magnification.

First of the Comic Art Program

Superman opened the Mint’s Comic Art Coin and Medal Program with Warner Bros. Discovery, ahead of Batman and Wonder Woman. The silver Superman is a medal with no denomination, struck at Philadelphia in a matte finish with a plain edge. The gold Superman $50 is the release’s only coin.

This is a collectible. Its value comes from its grade, rarity, and design rather than its metal weight alone.
