2025 Superman 1 oz Silver Medal, Graded NGC MS70

The U.S. Mint’s one ounce Superman silver medal, graded MS70 by NGC with no release designation. It is the smaller of the two silver medals from Superman’s 2025 release, the first in the Mint’s Comic Art Coin and Medal Program.

A Lifelong Fan’s Superman

Chief Engraver Joseph Menna worked as a DC artist before the Mint, and he called himself a lifelong comic book fan when the first Superman medal was struck. His obverse shows Superman in flight above the farm where Martha and Jonathan Kent raised him. The Mint describes the sun in the scene as both the light that feeds the farm and the source of his powers.

Clark Before the Cape

The reverse leaves the hero out and shows the young man instead. Clark Kent, deep in thought, watches a plane fly over while his father looks on from a distance. The silver medals add the words SUPERMAN and HOPE AND STRENGTH, where the gold coin carries its coin inscriptions.

One Ounce or 2.5

Superman’s release offered silver in two sizes. This one ounce medal is 40.60 mm across with no mintage limit. The 2.5 ounce medal is 50.80 mm and was limited. Both are matte, plain-edged and struck at Philadelphia, and both are medals with no denomination, unlike the half ounce gold $50 coin from West Point.

The Grade on Its Own

NGC’s 70 is the top of its scale, given only when NGC finds no post-production imperfections at 5x magnification. This medal carries that grade without an Early Releases, First Releases or First Day of Issue designation.

This is a collectible. Its value comes from its grade, rarity, and design rather than its metal weight alone.
