2025 Superman 1 oz Silver Medal, NGC MS70 First Releases
This U.S. Mint Superman medal reached NGC before the designation’s cutoff and came back MS70 First Releases. NGC lists it as the DC Comics 2025 Superman 1oz Silver Medal, an MS issue, with a First Releases cutoff of November 7, 2025.
The Hero Within
The Mint’s two Superman designs split the character in half. On the reverse is Clark Kent as a young adult, lost in thought as a plane crosses the sky while his father looks on, knowing his son will leave to meet his destiny. The obverse, by Chief Engraver Joseph Menna, shows the hero he becomes, flying over the family farm in the light of the sun that powers him.
From Pre-Order to NGC’s Cutoff
The Mint opened pre-orders on July 24, 2025, with shipping expected by early fall. NGC’s First Releases, the same designation as its Early Releases, covers pieces received within 30 days of an issue’s release by NGC or an approved depository. For the one ounce Superman, NGC set the cutoff at November 7, 2025, two days after the 2.5 ounce medal’s.
The Program’s Opening Release
Superman launched the Mint’s Comic Art Coin and Medal Program with Warner Bros. Discovery, which runs three DC heroes a year through 2027. Batman and Wonder Woman were the other two heroes of 2025. Superman’s lineup was a half ounce gold $50 coin and two silver medals, 2.5 ounces and one ounce.
Silver, Matte and No Denomination
The one ounce Superman is a medal with no denomination, struck at the Philadelphia Mint in 99.9% fine silver with a matte finish and plain edge. The Mint set no mintage limit on this size. NGC’s 70 means no post-production imperfections at 5x magnification.
This is a collectible. Its value comes from its grade, rarity, and design rather than its metal weight alone.
