Superman 1 oz Silver Medal, NGC MS70 Early Releases

Certified MS70 Early Releases by NGC, this is the one ounce Superman silver medal that started the U.S. Mint’s run of DC heroes in 2025. NGC’s Early Releases cutoff for the issue was November 7, 2025, and this medal reached NGC in time.

Nine Heroes, Starting Here

The Mint’s Comic Art Coin and Medal Program, made with Warner Bros. Discovery, plans nine DC heroes across 2025, 2026 and 2027. Superman led off the first year, followed by Batman and Wonder Woman. The Mint also sold the one ounce medals by subscription, sending each new hero to subscribers as it was released, which makes this medal the first piece in any complete run.

Superman on One Side, Clark Kent on the Other

Chief Engraver Joseph Menna, who drew for DC before joining the Mint, designed the obverse of Superman soaring over the Kent family farm, a nod to the values Martha and Jonathan Kent gave him. The reverse is the quieter side: Clark as a young man, thinking about his future as a plane passes and his father watches, with SUPERMAN and HOPE AND STRENGTH.

What Early Releases Records

NGC applies Early Releases to pieces received within 30 days of an issue’s release by NGC or an approved depository, and it decides eligibility. The Mint opened Superman pre-orders on July 24, 2025 and expected to ship by early fall, and NGC set the one ounce medal’s cutoff at November 7, 2025. The designation describes timing, not condition.

A Matte Medal at the Top Grade

The Superman silver piece is a medal, not a coin, with no denomination. It was struck at Philadelphia in 99.9% fine silver with a matte finish and a plain edge, and the Mint set no mintage limit on the one ounce size. NGC’s 70 means no post-production imperfections at 5x magnification.

This is a collectible. Its value comes from its grade, rarity, and design rather than its metal weight alone.
