The 35th Anniversary Kookaburra in Ten Ounces
The 2025 10 oz Australian Silver Kookaburra marks 35 years of the series, which the Perth Mint began in 1990. It holds 10 troy ounces of .9999 fine silver in one coin, carries a $10 AUD face value as Australian legal tender, and comes in a protective acrylic capsule. The Perth Mint struck it only through the end of 2025.
A Kookaburra and a Nod to the First Coin
Sean Rogers designed the 2025 reverse, a kookaburra perched on a tree branch with lines radiating behind it like a sunburst. A small round privy mark near the bottom pays tribute to the original 1990 design. KOOKABURRA runs down the right side with 35TH ANNIVERSARY inside it, and the date, weight and purity read 2025 10oz 9999 SILVER along the left, beside the Perth Mint’s P mintmark. The other side carries Dan Thorne’s effigy of King Charles III and the $10 denomination.
Struck for One Year Only
The Perth Mint set no maximum mintage for the 2025 10 oz, so it was struck to demand, but production closed at the end of 2025 and the Perth Mint will declare the final count. Each coin also carries a micro-laser engraved letter on the reverse, an authentication feature too small to see without a magnifying glass.
Ten Ounces, One Coin
The 10 oz has been part of the Kookaburra series since 1992. One large coin usually costs less per ounce than ten 1 oz coins, because it is cheaper to strike and package. The trade is that it sells as a single piece. One coin, one sale, so many stackers keep 1 oz coins alongside it.
