The coin is named for the Vienna Philharmonic, and its front shows the great organ in the orchestra’s home, the Golden Hall of the Vienna Musikverein. The building, designed by the architect Theophil Hansen, opened in January 1870, and it is the venue for the annual Vienna New Year’s Concert. The hall’s original organ was later replaced, and the instrument there today was rebuilt by the Austrian organ builder Rieger and inaugurated in March 2011.
