About the 2025 Australian Silver Kangaroo
The 2025 1 oz Australian Silver Kangaroo holds one troy ounce of 99.99% pure silver from the Perth Mint, dated 2025 and legal tender in Australia with a $1 AUD face value. The Perth Mint released the 2025 Kangaroo bullion series in gold, silver and platinum in November 2024, and it credited that launch with lifting its sales for the month.
Gangurru, the Name Behind the Coin
The Perth Mint traces the word kangaroo to gangurru, from the Guugu Yimithirr language. The animal on the coin is the red kangaroo, the largest marsupial in the world, which the mint notes can reach speeds of almost 50 km/h. An Australian word first, long before it was a coin.
The Bounding Kangaroo and the King
The reverse shows a kangaroo in mid-bound, hind legs stretched and tail out behind it, surrounded by stylised rays of sunlight. A wavy-lined border carries AUSTRALIAN KANGAROO, 2025, 1oz 9999 SILVER and the Perth Mint’s P mintmark. On the obverse is Dan Thorne’s portrait of King Charles III, with the denomination. The reverse also hides a micro-laser engraved letter that only shows under a magnifying glass.
Straight from the Mint Tube
The Perth Mint lists the finish as bullion. These coins are struck in volume and packed in tubes of 25, so a coin may show light contact marks from minting and handling. That is normal for a bullion coin and does not change the silver inside. Coins come from tubes and ship without individual packaging.
2025 1 oz Australian Silver Kangaroo Specifications
Each coin contains 1.000 troy ounce of 99.99% pure silver, with a minimum gross weight of 31.107 grams. The Perth Mint gives a maximum diameter of 40.90 mm and a maximum thickness of 3.50 mm. Mintage was unlimited, and the coin is IRA eligible. Full current details are on the Specifications tab.
