Among the world’s major sovereign silver coins, the Perth Mint’s Kangaroo consistently carries one of the lowest premiums. This 2025 issue holds 1 troy oz of .9999 fine silver, a purity step above the .999 standard used by most competing bullion coins, and ships brilliant uncirculated. Stackers buy it for the price, collectors keep it for the annual design and Perth Mint quality.
Key Features:
- Purity and Weight: 1 troy oz of .9999 fine silver
- Metal Type: Silver, struck by The Perth Mint
- Obverse Design: Effigy of King Charles III with 1 DOLLAR denomination
- Reverse Design: Red kangaroo mid-hop over a radiating sunburst field
The obverse carries the left-facing portrait of King Charles III, worked with fine strands running through the hair and crisp lines across the collar, tie, and jacket lapel. CHARLES III and AUSTRALIA arc across the top, separated by the bust, while 1 DOLLAR runs along the lower rim between two raised dots. The background field is filled with a fine wave pattern, a Perth Mint security feature, and a beaded border rings the edge.
The reverse shows a kangaroo caught mid-hop, its body angled forward, forelimbs drawn in, hind leg fully extended and its heavy tail sweeping out behind for counterbalance. The fur is textured across the back and haunch, and the head turns slightly toward the viewer. Behind the animal, a burst of radiating spikes fans out from the center to a wave-patterned outer ring. AUSTRALIAN KANGAROO curves across the top, 2025 1oz 9999 SILVER runs along the bottom, and the P mintmark sits at the right.
Each coin measures 40.6 mm in diameter and carries a $1 AUD face value as legal tender in Australia. Coins are pulled from mint tubes and monster boxes, so light contact marks are normal for the grade. Capsules are not included at this price point.
