The 2025 1 oz Australian Silver Koala is one troy ounce of 99.99% pure silver from the Perth Mint, carrying that year’s koala and a $1 Australian face value. The Perth Mint capped it at 300,000 coins, and like every Koala, the 2025 design was used for that year only. It suits stackers who want an Australian ounce and collectors putting together a run of Koala dates.
Koala on the Branch
The Perth Mint built the 2025 design around a day in the life of a koala, high in the eucalyptus canopy. The koala lies draped over a branch that rises across the coin, one forepaw hooked over the wood and a hind foot gripping below, with its round, tufted ears and broad nose turned straight toward you. Eucalyptus leaves spray up from the lower left, and on one leaf stem sit the initials AH, for designer Aleysha Howarth. KOALA arcs across the top, 2025 1oz 9999 SILVER follows the left rim and the P mintmark sits in the right field.
A King in a Suit
The obverse carries Dan Thorne’s portrait of King Charles III, the effigy used on Australian coins. In this portrait the King wears a jacket with a collared shirt and tie, facing left inside CHARLES III and AUSTRALIA. The initials DT sit below the truncation, and 1 DOLLAR runs along the lower rim between two small dots.
Bullion Finish, Capped at 300,000
The Perth Mint lists this coin’s finish as bullion, so the fields are bright but not mirrored, and small marks from striking are normal. Each coin comes in a protective acrylic capsule, which keeps handling marks off it. The 300,000 cap is a ceiling on production, not a count of coins actually struck, and the Perth Mint’s own shop now shows the 2025 coin as out of stock, so remaining coins come from dealer inventory. The coin is priced on its silver, not on its mintage.

Aleysha Howarth designed the koala, and her initials AH appear on a leaf stem on the reverse. The King Charles III portrait on the obverse is by Dan Thorne.
What do the letters AH and DT on the coin mean?
They are the designers’ initials. AH, among the eucalyptus leaves, is Aleysha Howarth. DT, below the King’s portrait, is Dan Thorne.
How many 2025 1 oz Koalas did the Perth Mint make?
The Perth Mint set a maximum mintage of 300,000 coins for the 2025 1 oz Silver Koala. That is a ceiling, and the Mint does not publish a final count on the product page.
Where is the security feature?
It is a micro-laser engraved letter on the coin, small enough that you need a magnifying glass to see it. The Perth Mint adds it to make the coin harder to counterfeit.
Is the 2025 Silver Koala IRA eligible?
