The 2024 Saint George and the Dragon Gold Coin marks the opening release in a bullion series from Britain’s Royal Mint built around one of the country’s most enduring legends. Struck in a full troy ounce of gold, it carries the weight and purity that bullion buyers look for while presenting a design with genuine artistic merit. For collectors, a first-year issue in a new series holds particular interest; for investors, the recognized gold content does the work.

Key Features:

  • Contains 1 troy ounce of .9999 fine gold
  • Metal: gold bullion, Brilliant Uncirculated finish
  • Obverse: portrait of King Charles III in left profile
  • Reverse: Saint George on horseback defeating the dragon

The obverse shows King Charles III facing left, depicted without a crown. The surrounding inscription reads “CHARLES III D G REX F D 100 POUNDS,” naming the monarch and the coin’s £100 face value. The portrait sits against a finely textured field that catches light across the raised relief of the bust.

The reverse carries the scene the series is named for. Saint George is shown mounted on a rearing horse, lance lowered, in the moment of striking the dragon coiled beneath. The dragon’s scaled body and wing fill the lower field, and the year 2024 appears at the base. The legend of Saint George overcoming the dragon has appeared on British coinage since Benedetto Pistrucci’s celebrated sovereign design of 1817, and this contemporary treatment gives the familiar subject a sense of motion and force.

The coin is produced to bullion standard in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, with crisp detail across both faces. Its £100 denomination is backed by the British government. Coins of this type are typically supplied loose, in protective tubes, or in sealed mint boxes depending on quantity purchased.

This release pairs a trusted one-ounce gold weight with the first design in a notable new Royal Mint series, giving it appeal on both the investment and collector sides. Add the 2024 Saint George and the Dragon Gold Coin to your holdings while first-year examples remain available.
