About the 2024 American Silver Eagle
The 2024 American Silver Eagle carries that year’s date on the same Walking Liberty design the US Mint first struck in 1986. Every coin holds one troy ounce of .999 fine silver, backed by a $1 face value from the federal government. It carries the current Type 2 reverse used on every Eagle struck from mid-2021 onward, Adolph Weinman’s striding Liberty on the obverse and Emily Damstra’s landing eagle on the reverse, dated 2024 rather than the newest year on the shelf.

A Missing Reed You’re Not Meant to See
Type 2 Eagles like this one carry a discreet anti-counterfeiting feature built into the edge: one reed is deliberately left out of the reeded pattern, a variation a counterfeiter copying the coin by eye would have no reason to replicate. It doesn’t change how the coin looks or spends, and most buyers never notice it’s there. One reed is missing, on purpose, as a check against copies.

Does the 2024 Silver Eagle have a mint mark?
No. Bullion-strike Eagles never carry a mint mark, regardless of year or which facility struck them. Only the Mint’s separate proof and burnished collector versions carry a W. No mint mark is normal, not a defect.
What is the missing reed on the edge for?
It’s a deliberate anti-counterfeiting feature built into every Type 2 Eagle, this one included: one reed is left out of the pattern as a detail a copy is unlikely to replicate correctly. It’s intentional, not a manufacturing flaw.
Is the 2024 American Silver Eagle IRA eligible?
Yes. The American Silver Eagle has its own listing in the tax code as an approved IRA coin, separate from the fineness rule other silver has to clear. It qualifies by name, on top of already meeting the purity standard anyway.
How are American Silver Eagles packaged?
In official US Mint tubes of 20 coins, with 25 tubes making up a 500-coin Mint box. Tubes hold 20 coins, and a full box holds 500.
What condition are these coins in?
Brilliant Uncirculated, as struck by the Mint. Because .999 silver is soft, coins may show light handling marks from the minting process, which is normal for the series and doesn’t affect the silver content. Condition is Brilliant Uncirculated, not a certified grade.
