There is beautiful and then there is incredibly beautiful. The 2023 Australia 1oz Silver Kookaburra is most definitely the latter. This coin features a stunning design of two Kookaburra birds perched on branches. This is the most recent release by the Perth Mint in their long-running Kookaburra Coin Series. This design looks fantastic in bullion grade 1 oz. .9999 fine silver.

Key features:

  • Limited to a mintage of 500,000
  • 1 oz .9999 fine silver BU Grade
  • Minted by the Perth Mint
  • Legal tender of Australia-face value $1
  • Protective capsule packaging for individual coins
  • Obverse has Queen Elizabeth II wearing her crown and dangle earrings. Engraved at the top is ‘Elizabeth II’ ‘Australia’. At the bottom is ‘1 Dollar’
  • Reverse has two Australian Kookaburra birds perched on branches.  Engraved at the top is ‘2023 1oz. 9999 Silver’ and ‘Kookaburra’.

On the obverse of this coin is Jody Clark’s famous effigy of Queen Elizabeth II wearing her royal diadem and royal jewelry. The queen looks especially regal and poised in this profile portrait commissioned by the Royal Mint in 2015. Written in an arch above her head is ‘Elizabeth II’. On her right shoulder are the letters ‘JC’, Jody Clark’s initials. Below the queen’s portrait is written, ‘1 Dollar’ which is the legal tender face value backed by the Australian Government.

The Reverse of the coin features the coin’s namesake, the Australian Kookaburra bird. This year’s design captures two birds perched on branches. One bird is a bit bigger than the other. Above the scene is written ‘2023 1oz. 9999 Silver’ and ‘Kookaburra’. To the right of the smaller bird’s tale is the letter ‘P’, the mark of the Perth Mint.

The Perth Mint is considered one of the most trusted mints in the world going back to 1899 when it was first founded. The mint started as another location for the Royal Mint in England but later became Australia’s own mint. This mint with its wealth of experience has shown that they are masters of the traditional production of coins but have also shown the world that they can set trends with modern techniques like the use of color and gilding. The 1 oz Silver Kookaburra coin was introduced in 1990 and it has fast become a staple in most collector’s collections.
